304. Ari Schneider & Ryan Barton-Grimley “Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers”

Full disclosure… I love Ari Schneider and Ryan Barton-Grimley.  I saw the first feature film that they made together, “Elija’s Ashes,” back in 2018 after meeting Ryan at Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2017.  (Ryan was there with another feature, “Repatriation.”)  Ari and Ryan are the real deal, an on-screen comedy duo.  Back in the golden age the studios knew the value of keeping pairs with comedic chemistry together for multiple films.  Luckily, Ryan and Ari are keeping the tradition alive.

Another disclosure… this was my first ever “remote” podcast.  I showed up at Ryan’s home office and we recorded three people with one microphone in a big room with an open door.  Don’t expect it to sound like we were in recording booths!

Finally, I should mention that “Hawk and Rev: Vampire Slayers” came to Film Invasion Los Angeles in 2021 and slayed, taking home three Grand Jury Prizes; Best Feature Film – Comedy,
Best Actor in a Supporting Role – Ari Schneider, and Best Performance by a Cast – Comedy.

So be smart and go to Justwatch.com and watch this hilarious film with horror touches and an 80’s vibe.

303. 4Qs with TYM4Change

What are the 4Q’s?  (1) Favorite films, top 3. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out.

But… in the podcast episode there were six guests, so instead of all 4Qs each person answers Q1, “Three Favorite Films.”

The six people on Zoom with me are or were all involved in the amazing non-profit organization TYM4Change, “Transitional Youth Mobilizing for Change.” TYM4Change  envisions a world in which youth recognize and act on their capacity to create positive and meaningful change in their schools, neighborhoods, and communities.  They brought their wonderful documentary “Invisible: The Unseen Faces of Hunger in Kern” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2021 and I’m proud to say that you can catch this documentary in Season 6, Episode 10 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video!
