473. Bill Prokopow “Entrainment”

Welcome back,  Discover Indie Film Listeners! Did we all survive Thanksgiving? I’m hoping everyone’s holiday was relaxing and joyful but if you find yourself in need of a energy recharge or some good old creative inspiration to get through this final push of the year, I have the perfect interview for you today.

Did you ever meet somebody and think to yourself that they seem like an incredibly interesting person?
That was my reaction after moderating a Q&A with Bill Prokopow at Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2023. I shouldn’t have been surprised.
Bill’s film “Entrainment” is absolutely a captivating story told in an innovative and unique style; of course its filmmaker is equally interesting.
By the way, I wasn’t the only one impressed with “Entrainment.” It took home three Filmmakers awards at SOFF 2023; FA – Outstanding Short Film – SciFi, Outstanding Screenplay – SciFi – Bill Prokopow, and Outstanding Creativity – SciFi.
I know that I’m biased, but as a SciFi fan I’m quite comfortable saying that the most creative SciFi film is going to be the most creative film at the festival. Nothing beats SciFi for creativity.
As I’m implying, Bill did not disappoint. The creative story of how Bill is reaching towards his goal of transitioning from musician and composer to filmmaker is well worth a listen!

SOFF 2024 Virtual Screenings

The virtual screenings are hosted by our sponsor The Indie Channel.

How It Works
1. Where to go.  Access these screenings directly here: SOFF 2024 Virtual Screenings
2. How to purchase.  The viewer must purchase the title “Sherman Oaks Film Festival – Virtual Screenings” on The Indie Channel website as the smartTV platforms do not allow for the separate purchase.  A subscription to The Indie Channel is NOT required to watch our screenings.
3.  How to watch.  After making the purchase, the viewer can watch immediately on the web OR they can then go to their smartTV, install The Indie Channel app, and watch on there.  The Indie Channel is available on Roku, Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Android TV, and mobile phones.

We know that this extra step to watch on a TV is not perfect, but a very enthusiastic staff member tested it and confirmed that even though the smartTV platforms do not allow this extra purchase directly, the SOFF 2024 Virtual Screenings do show up as a Purchase with the smartTV apps.

471. Paulo Araujo “Accidental Artist”

Happy Tuesday, My film friends! As you busy yourself with grocery shopping and preparing the “big meal,”  we wanted to accompany you with a new podcast to listen to!

Paulo Araujo brought the film “Accidental Artist” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2023 and his inspiring, compelling documentary took home two Filmmakers Awards, Outstanding Short Film – Documentary and Outstanding Creativity –Documentary.

Paulo shares his creative story with me, revealing quite a bit about what it takes to be a creative in today’s world.

Disclaimer: we recorded this podcast on Thursday, November 7, two days after a presidential election in the USA. We stayed on topic about film and creativity for nearly an hour, but then we went ahead and used our conversation as an opportunity to get
a lot off our mutual chests. We both voted for the candidate who did not win and if listening to us will displease you then I believe we both respect your decision to stop listening when we shift conversational gears.
