Episode 111: 4Qs with Erik Bork

Erik Bork (center) at SOFF 2018

What are the 4Q’s?

  • Name your favorite film of all time (limit 3)
  • Name a film you think is underrated
  • Name a film you think is overrated
  • Name a lesser-known film that you think people should seek out

Erik Bork made the award winning short film I Got This, that took home a handful of award at SOFf 2018.  He came in for an interview so of course I have him answer the 4Q’s.  And by the way, I think this is the fastest, most efficient 4Q’s we’ve ever had on this podcast.

Here are Erik’s answers:

  • Favorites:  The World According To Garp
  • Underrated: She’s Having A Baby
  • Overrated: The Dark Knight
  • Seek Out: Breaking Away

Episode 108: Erik Bork “I Got This”

Erik Bork (second from left) at his SOFF 2018 Q&A

The short film I Got This took home three well-deserved awards from the 2018 Sherman Oaks Film Festival.  Filmmaker Erik Bork put together a wonderful film that typifies how a filmmaker can tell a complete, three-act story within the short film format and leave the audience delighted yet also wanting to see more.

The film won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Screenplay and the Filmmakers Award for Outstanding Film and Outstanding Director.  I learned a lot about Erik during this interview.  He has come to filmmaking via a very different path than many of the other filmmakers who have been featured on this podcast.  Listen to find out how.

But BEFORE you listen to this interview, WATCH THE MOVIE.  It’s right there, below this paragraph.  And guess what?  Come October 1, 2019, you will be able to watch it with 20 other wonderful films as part of Season 2 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on AmazonPrime Video.

Now that you’ve seen the film, listen to the interview with filmmaker Erik Bork.

  • Name your favorite film of all time (limit 3)
  • Name a film you think is underrated
  • Name a film you think is overrated
  • Name a lesser-known film that you think people should seek out

Documentarian Brett Nicoletti won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival for Best Documentary with his film The Running Man of Pasadena.  He gave a great interview about his film that you can listen to right here.  But it was really fun to have a documentarian answer the four questions instead of one of those run-of-the-mill narrative filmmakers.

Here are Brett’s answers:

  • Favorites:  Die Hard, The Graduate, Man On Wire
  • Underrated: Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
  • Overrated: Roma
  • Seek Out: Brain Candy, Campesino (Documentary)

Jeff Howard & Brett Nicoletti at SOFF 2018

The first night of the 2019 Sherman Oaks Film Festival started with a screening block that ended with the wonderful documentary The Running Man of Pasadena.  We were excited to have the filmmakers and the movie’s subject in attendance!

The film went on to win the Grand Jury Prize for Documentary, and when you watch it below you can see why.  Filmmaker Brett Nicoletti did a wonderful job capturing the drama and inspiration that dedicated runner Haik Zakarian brings to his community.
