249. Goldwyn Thandrayen “I Don’t Need A Sledgehammer To Start A Fire”

Goldwyn hopped onto Zoom for his DIF interview

Goldwyn Thandrayen is a musician and composer.  A guitarist and a singer.  And a filmmaker!  Goldwyn directs his own music videos, and the video he made for “I Don’t Need A Sledgehammer To Start A Fire” won the Filmmakers Award for Outstanding Music Video at FILA 2021.  Almost as exciting is that this video is part of Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

DIF Review: A Perfect Vintage

Rating: 👍🏽

This feature length documentary about winemaking had me engaged from start to finish and, in all honesty, I’m not even into wine.  Like, not at all!  That gives you an idea how well-made and personal this film is.  The people who make wine and the processes they go through are simply fascinating, even if you aren’t a wine drinker.  So I say open a bottle of wine and watch this movie!

248. 4Qs with Yan Fisher & Omri Rose

Yes, I ran out into the street as Yan & Omri were getting to their car to grab this pic. Finally I wasn’t too late!

What are the 4Q’s?

  • Name your favorite films of all time (limit 3)
  • Name a film you think is underrated
  • Name a film you think is overrated
  • Name a lesser-known film that you think people should seek out

The film “Achan and Ezra” came to both Sherman Oaks Film Festival and Film Invasion Los Angeles, and filmmaking team Yan Fisher (director/producer) and Omri Rose (writer/producer/actor) were kind enough to allow their smart, relevant comedy to join Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

After a great interview with these two, we recorded this podcast which features them answering those four questions above!

If you want to learn more about these two, Yan’s  Instagram is @yanf7r and Omri’s is @omri.rose.

If you want to be really cool, look up the two podcasts that Omri creates, “Shadow of Truth” and
“Spies and Lies.”  Like & subscribe!

DIF Review “Borrelia Borealis”

Why do I recommend “Borrelia Borealis”?  I watch nearly 2,000 indie films every year because I run two film festivals.  Since Covid hit us in March 2020, I have seen a jillion indie efforts at the “make a creative film while trapped at home” genre. “Borrelia Borealis” overcame the challenges that lockdown presented with a massive dose of creativity.  Writer, director and lead actor Kathryne Isabelle Easton knew exactly what might kill a “trapped indoors” film and she dodged every bullet.  It is fresh, inventive, and beautiful to look at. If you enjoy indie film, then watch this movie.

DIF Review “Counter Clockwise”

Why do I recommend “Counter Clockwise”?  Because this indie film took on the time travel challenge and nailed it.  If I had a dollar for every big budget Hollywood film that dropped the time travel ball, I’d have enough to money to get sushi for two tonight.  This entertaining film gives you more than just a greatly written time travel story, it’s smart, funny and well acted.  If you enjoy indie film, then watch this movie.
