DIF Review: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Jiyan: La vie

Rating: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

What makes the film “Jiyan: La vie” so special?  This film was made by a filmmaker who worked intimately with refugees and this experience inspired him to make a film about their lives.  yes, it is fictionalized, but in every way this story is true to life about the challenges that people face when forced to flee a war-torn nation.  Yet the story is told with humor, authenticity, and even features a touch of romance.  I personally cannot imagine a mature, intelligent adult not appreciating this breathtaking film.

DIF Review: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Killer Whales

Rating: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

What do I love most about this film?  Everything.  It’s smart, hilarious, and entertaining from start to finish.  But what makes “Killer Whales” truly wonderful is that every character in this film is insane, completely insane.  And that is why they all seem like real people on a series of cinematic adventures.  The truth is that our planet is filled with crazy people doing crazy things and “Killer Whales” nails it.  I guess that I also have to mention that the writing, acting, and directing are superb; which I thought was obvious because you cannot accomplish a brilliant, whimsical film without those elements.

DIF Review: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Bone Cage

Rating: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

“Bone Cage” is a remarkably powerful Indie film.  Brilliantly acted and superbly directed, you can add to the list wonderful cinematography that takes you into the heart of rural Nova Scotia.  Based upon an award winning play, this film delivers exactly what Indie film fans love; an honest, authentic presentation of life in a world that rarely makes it to the screen.

275. 4Qs with Jake Whiston

What are the 4Q’s?  (1) Favorite films, top 3. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out.

Jake Whiston hopped onto DIF to discuss his career in music and film as well as his short film “Your Heart Is Mine,” which took home the Programmer’s Prize at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2020.  I’m proud to say that this film is part of Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

Like everyone who does an interview, I made sure to have Jake answer the DIF 4Qs!

274. Jake Whiston “Your Heart Is Mine”

Filmmaker Jake Whiston brought his short film “Your Heart Is Mine” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2020 and took home the Programmer’s Prize.  This incredibly unique and original film started out as a music video and then evolved into an art film, and that term is a high compliment in my book, that utilized the song as its soundtrack.   I’m proud to say that this film is part of Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

I’d been looking forward to interviewing Jake for over a year – delighted to finally bring this chat to you!
