275. 4Qs with Jake Whiston

What are the 4Q’s?  (1) Favorite films, top 3. (2) An underrated film. (3) An overrated film. (4) A lesser-known film people should seek out.

Jake Whiston hopped onto DIF to discuss his career in music and film as well as his short film “Your Heart Is Mine,” which took home the Programmer’s Prize at the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2020.  I’m proud to say that this film is part of Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

Like everyone who does an interview, I made sure to have Jake answer the DIF 4Qs!

274. Jake Whiston “Your Heart Is Mine”

Filmmaker Jake Whiston brought his short film “Your Heart Is Mine” to the Sherman Oaks Film Festival in 2020 and took home the Programmer’s Prize.  This incredibly unique and original film started out as a music video and then evolved into an art film, and that term is a high compliment in my book, that utilized the song as its soundtrack.   I’m proud to say that this film is part of Season 5 of the Discover Indie Film TV Series on Amazon Prime Video.

I’d been looking forward to interviewing Jake for over a year – delighted to finally bring this chat to you!

DIF Review: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽 Kringle Time

Rating: 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

“The manager of a small town public access station questions the legacy of his favorite children’s show mascot when he learns that the man inside the costume had been carrying a dark and scandalous secret.”

The reason that I love this film is that it accomplishes the rare feat of creating an exaggerated world of comedy and pain, resulting in dark comedy that somehow feels more realistic than imagined.  Add to that mix a remarkable cast, excellent direction, and the independent spirit you get when a bunch of friends who work on others people’s films for a living jump on the chance to do something for themselves, and “Kringle Time” is not a film that any fan of Indies should miss.

To see where you can watch this film, hit the IMDB page or visit Rotten Tomatoes, where it currently has a sweet 82% rating.

DIF Reviews have three rules:

  1. No spoilers
  2. No more than five sentences
  3. Available to watch online

The goal it so focus on Indies, but Hollywood fare is fair game, too!
